Firstly, I want to thank the whole of the Wessex team for presenting a very smooth event, particularly in that they used the ‘semi – open’ start system to absorb the inevitable Saturday morning traffic problems. It seemed to put everyone in a relaxed frame of mind before they ran.
Bovington North is now a difficult area in which to plan. The MOD have recently installed new barbed wire fences and insisted that we only use their designated crossing points. The terrain is in many places very tough and although the recent rain has laid the dust there are still significant marshes to avoid. These issues, together with restrictions on access, added to the planning challenge of producing courses that met the required technical standard, and also accounts for the high number of controls and convoluted shapes on the longer courses.
For Roger Crickmore this was his first attempt at planning an event on this scale and I was greatly impressed with his enthusiasm and attention to detail in meeting what was a major challenge. Congratulations Roger!
