Dorset Schools League 1999-2000 Season

Here are the results for the first League event of the new season at Clayesmore. (1st revision 14 Sept)

Planner/Organiser’s comments:-

Thank you all for coming. My thanks especially to David Maughan, Peter Miles and Colin Evans and all the members of the Clayesmore O-group who helped on the day. My apologies to the competitors on the Light Green course for the mis-marked Master Map. Although the circle was on the wrong feature it was only 5m away in open ground so I don’t think anyone was seriously inconvenienced. On the Line/Score course, mapping vagaries meant that one of the controls on the return score leg was probably closer than 10m to the line so I haven’t penalised anyone for punching it twice. In future I will use the E end of that veg boundary to save arguments.

a) Lost Property - one compass was left at the finish. Claim it from me at Clayesmore Prep (01747 811707) or by e-mail.

b) The next schools league event at Hurn Forest is on Sunday, October 3rd, NOT as appeared on the letter I sent out at the beginning of term, Oct 4th. The original planner for this event, Rick Wall, is now out of hospital. We wish him a speedy return to health. Meanwhile, the event WILL take place, organised/planned by John Warren. Parking is in the usual place on the forest track off Boundary Lane, Grid ref 105023. More details on the WIM web site.

c) Although the current situation gives the two Clayesmore sides considerable home advantage, this will balance itself out as the season progresses, particularly as at least three of the proposed dates for schools events fall outside their term-time or at exeat weekends.

d) Next Schools events Oct 3 Hurn Forest - see above and the main web pages

Oct 17 Hamptworth (Sarum Gallopen)

Nov 28 Ibsley & Rockford (WIM Gallopen)

The event at Hardy’s Monument mooted for November has been put back to the New Year (possibly the end of January).

e) Wimborne Orienteers have just been awarded a substantial Lottery grant to develop a permanent orienteering course at Moors Valley Country Park. Although this was only confirmed this week, the course is planned and the posts are already in the ground. Shortly the accompanying leaflets will be produced, the maps printed and by Christmas a “pack” will be available at the country park. In the meantime, if you would like to use the course, please contact either John Warren or myself for further information. The staff at the country park are extremely enthusiastic about it all and a number of them have taken the BOF Teacher/Leader qualification so that they can coach beginners.
