ORGANISER’S COMMENTS.

Well after a truly exhausting weekend and after almost 4 months of suffering Orienteering on the Brain, I can finally let out a sigh of satisfaction in the comforting knowledge that it’s all over now. When I was approached in the autumn of 2004 with the tentative suggestion that WIM required an Organiser for our Badge (sorry, Regional) Event and that maybe I would like the job, I immediately accepted the challenge. It was only then that fellow club members began to chill me with stories of Organisers’ anguish and the ‘reassurances’ of “If you can successfully organise a Badge Event on MOD land, you can organise anything”.

It wasn’t actually too bad an ordeal, and I would certainly tackle such a challenge again. Liaising with the various land owners required determination, booking slots in the MOD diary for Planners’ and Controller’s pre-event access. The rest was made a whole lot easier by the vast number of enthusiastic and generous club members that WIM is blessed with.

I think the day went remarkably smoothly, despite Mother Nature’s attempts to ensure otherwise by throwing as many forms of inclement weather at us as she could. We had left and locked the site by 15.20 - possibly something to do with everyone wanting to get out of that bitterly cold wind as soon as possible. On the whole I thoroughly enjoyed my first attempt at Organising, and by the various comments I received and overheard, I think most other people did too. Thank you ever so much to all those people who helped out both on the day and in the preceding weeks, (we should in particular thank the Bolton family for taking on and organising the String course) and thank you to everyone else for turning up and making it all worth while.
