Organisers’ Comments

We only just made it on the day! After an evening of nail-biting phone calls thank goodness for the early morning decision to go ahead with the event as the weather on the day was windy but drier and mild although Avon Water was still running quite high.

This was our first effort at organising a large event and we must thank John Warren for his very patient guidance, advice and, of course, for his hard work in many other areas.

We were indeed fortunate to have the use of Setthorns campsite as our event centre which proved to be an ideal and sheltered location for which we thank the Forestry Commission and their staff. We were lucky to have so much hard-standing for cars as parking at a January event can be difficult. We found it easy to plan a free-flowing layout with the download tent near the power supply and only a short distance from the finish. The layout, including registration and SI hire, seemed to work well on the day.

We would like to express our thanks to our dedicated Team Leaders and all the many WIM members who worked so hard and with such efficiency in preparing for the event and on the day itself. It was reassuring for us as Organisers to be able to rely on such a high level of expertise from all our club members.

We are also grateful to our friendly Controller, Robert Jackson, for his wealth of experience and calm and efficient monitoring on the day.

The event was undoubtedly popular and the high number of entries received by John Shucksmith necessitated the curtailment of EOD for badge courses and EOD was restricted to colour coded courses. On the day there were approximately 600 competitors on the badge and colour coded courses.

We have been asked by a lady who had a nasty fall to express her thanks to the two gallant gentlemen who treated her with great TLC.

From the many favourable comments that we received, it appeared that you enjoyed the event and we hope that you have printed out the pictures on the website as a souvenir!
