Controller

Most of you will have spent most of your course in the mixed forest around Brownhills. Whilst somewhat muddy it is a lovely area of varying vegetation and plenty of good control sites. Chris devised some excellent courses and speaking to several competitors at the end most seemed to have enjoyed their experience out there. It is a pity that the run in was somewhat gruelling as a result of the strong headwind but all things considered the weather was relatively kind. The Yellow and White courses gave the young competitors more of a challenge with a greater variety of controls. However virtually all managed the challenge and finished with smiles on their faces. Well done Wimborne for an excellent event.

Planner

My thanks to Kevin Pickering and my wife, Lynn for their help and advice with the courses. Ian Sayer, as controller, was superb giving useful advice at all stages of the planning and keeping me on schedule. It was nice to have such an excellent turnout on the day which made all the courses very competitive.

Thank you all for coming and taking part in our Winter Warmer event. I hope you enjoyed the experience. The penalty for having good hard standing for parking was a long walk across the exposed Plain Heath to the start and back from the finish, but we were fortunate that the weather was kind to us. Thank you also to the teams of WIM helpers who made it all run so smoothly.

We were obliged to allocate start times because of the decision by Rules Group/Events Committee to include it as a requirement for Level B events in the new Event Guideline A. The feedback I have had on this is that competitors much prefer the flexibility of start blocks. Unless there is a very large entry pre-allocated start times do not seem to be necessary, and our start team were able to start competitors earlier or later than their allocated time. We particularly did not want competitors taking risks at the A35 road crossing because they felt they would be late arriving at the start.
